The newly built port of Hambantota is located on the southern coast and just twenty-five nautical miles North of the principal East-West sea lane is positioned as a one stop logistics platform by the port operator Hambantota International Port Services.In tn close proximity to the port is the MRIA or Mattala Rajapaksa International Airport which is Sri Lanka’s second International airport.
The Port is owned by a public private partnership company the Hambantota International Ports Group with a declared mission “to become a world-class sea port with global connectivity, raising the standard of integrated logistics services providing best-in-class solutions to meet the changing needs of our customers”.
The is great potential at Hambantota with its many 300m berths at 17m depth, facilities are ready for immediate use with Ro-Ro, Conventional Cargo, Oil & Gas, Container and Cruise vessels. There is a 80,000 mt Tank far designed for storage of bunker fuels. The physical bunker supply is to come online in the near future.
