Project Profile

Coordinated Bunker Stem, Debunkering & Tank Cleaning in Colombo

When a vessel requires multiple, highly regulated services during a single port call, precision logistics are essential.

A dry cargo vessel calling at the Port of Colombo required a complex, multi-stage maritime service: a coordinated bunker stem operation (LSFO and LSMGO supply), followed immediately by debunkering support and preparations for tank cleaning. Marine One was appointed to oversee the entire scope of work. We handled all physical operations, statutory compliance, and port documentation requirements, ensuring a seamless, safe, and delay-free turnaround for the vessel.

The Challenge

Bunkering and debunkering operations carry significant environmental and safety risks. When coupled with tank cleaning, the operation requires perfect alignment between the supply barge, the vessel's engineering crew, and local port authorities.

The Marine One operations desk had to perfectly synchronize the physical supply schedule with the vessel’s incredibly tight port stay, ensuring no overlap or delays between the fueling and cleaning phases.

📋 Receiving Vessel Specs

  • Vessel Type: Dry Cargo
  • LOA: 147.55 m
  • Arrival Draft / Freeboard: 6.1 m / 5.5 m

Strategic Execution & Supply Operation

To execute this operation safely and efficiently, Marine One deployed a highly capable double-hulled bunker barge and strictly managed the delivery timelines.

🚢

Bunker Barge Deployment

The physical supply was executed via the MT LM MAHAWELI (IMO: 8505238 | Call Sign: 4RFA), a 93-meter double-hulled bunker barge perfectly suited for fast, safe deliveries. The barge secured safely to the receiving vessel's port side, maintaining constant communication with the Master via VHF Channels 16, 71, and 77.

Debunkering & Tank Cleaning

Immediately following the successful fuel delivery, we facilitated the safe, compliant debunkering of fuel and arranged the necessary equipment and certified personnel for the vessel’s required tank cleaning operations. All waste removal was executed in strict adherence to MARPOL environmental regulations and local port guidelines.

The Outcome

Flawless Execution

The bunkering, debunkering support, and tank cleaning preparations were completed highly efficiently with zero delays, spills, or safety deviations.

📋

Total Compliance

All port documentation, customs clearances, and statutory environmental requirements were fully satisfied.

⏱️

On-Time Departure

Thanks to the rapid turnaround of the Marine One operations team, the dry cargo vessel completed its operations and sailed precisely on schedule.
